AdvaMed which represents Indian medical technology companies has said that it feels encouraged by the health minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan's September 29 announcement of a campaign involving all stakeholders, that will focus on tackling non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and on spreading awareness about the dangers of cardio-vascular diseases.

"Given India's rising non-communicable disease burden, medical devices have a critical role to play in the diagnosis and management of complex diseases and in allowing people to live fuller, more productive lives. For instance, the evolution of coronary stents has halved the number of people dying from heart attacks while implanted cardiac defibrillators have increased the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest," mentioned the statement by the leading industry body.

AdvaMed has also strongly backed the building of a transparent, value-driven healthcare system and is looking forward to play a larger role in supporting the health minister and the Indian government in addressing India's healthcare challenges.
