US Biotech industry - A snap shot

There were about 1,457 biotech companies in the US in 2001, representing a growth of 20 percent since 1992.

The size of the US biotechnology industry has more than tripled since 1992.

 

The gross market capitalization has witnessed a 36 percent fall from the year 2000 to 2002

 

A survey by Business Week says, five of the top ten firms in terms of R&D expenditure per employee are biotech companies
