Aster has launched the first neuro-oncology surgery unit in North Kerala. The neuro-oncology department will provide state-of-the-art treatment for patients with cancers of the brain and nervous system. Aster experts will also provide care for patients that endure neurologic complications from cancer or cancer therapies. The unit was launched under the leadership of Dr Murali Krishnan (Senior Consultant Neuro-Oncology Surgeon).
The cancer surgery unit of Aster MIMS has extended its operations in Kochi, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kottakal. In addition to general cancer surgeries, interventions are available in three major districts in Kerala by Aster MIMS experts for surgeries including, gynaecological oncology, Hyperexcitability, paediatric oncology, breast cancer surgery, head and neck oncology, neuro-oncology surgery, breast reconstruction surgery and cervical cancer.
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy or HIPEC Surgery, an innovative method in the field of cancer surgery, has been completed on 100 patients at Aster MIMS, Calicut, a unit of leading healthcare group Aster DM Healthcare. Hyperexcitability is a relief for patients with peritoneal cancer and pseudo myxoma peritoneum, which are usually difficult to operate on. The surgeries were led by Dr Salim VP, Senior Consultant Oncosurgeon, Aster MIMS, Calicut and Dr Jem Kalathil, Senior Consultant- Surgical Oncology, Aster Medicity, Kochi along with a team of other surgeons and medical staff.
A press conference was organised which was graced by Aster MIMS Regional Director Farhan Yasin, Dr Jem Kalathil and Dr Salim VP along with Dr KV Gangadharan (Head, Department of Oncology), Dr Sajith Babu (Senior Consultant Head & Neck Onco Surgeon) and Dr Krishnan.
