S&T Minister presides over three landmark initiatives at CDFD strengthening India's biotech ecosystem

A milestone moment took place at Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) - Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad, as the institute hosted Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, along with Dr Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary-Department of Biotechnology & DG-BRIC.

The Minister presided over three landmark initiatives strengthening India's biotechnology ecosystem. He laid the foundation stone of SAMARTH National Skill Development Centre – envisioned not just as a training hub, but as a centre for developing standardised methodologies and protocols in DNA fingerprinting, forensic genomics, and molecular diagnostics.

SAMARTH will play a pivotal role in creating homegrown, reliable frameworks that enhance our criminal justice system and precision medicine capabilities.

The Minister also inaugurated the iDeaNA–BRIC–CDFD Technology Incubator – accelerating startups in diagnostics, genomics, biomaterials, and precision healthcare toward market-ready innovations.

He also presided over a brainstorming session on “Bench to Bedside Solutions to Address Rare Disorders in India” – fostering collaboration to translate research into accessible healthcare solutions.

These initiatives embody the integrated vision: where cutting-edge research, national service, skill development, and entrepreneurial innovation come together to build a self-reliant India.
