Genotypic Technology and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), in association with Dhitiomics Technologies and QTLomics Technologies organised the 5th edition of Genomics India Conference (GIC) 2025 on the theme “The Indian Genomics Journey” at the J.N. Tata Auditorium, IISc, Bengaluru on August 12, 2025.
In his inaugural address Prof. Samir Brahmachari, widely celebrated as the Father of Genomics in Indian academia and the Founder Director of CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), said “India’s genomics community grew from a modest beginning in the 1990s to a thriving, multidisciplinary research landscape actively contributing to global genomics knowledge. The integrative approach combined molecular biology, structural biology, informatics, and translational research, shaping genomics research policies and institutions in India and inspiring new generations of scientists.”
Recalling his days at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Dr Brahmachari talked about the Open Source Drug Discovery (OSDD) project that has exemplified a translational research platform by harnessing the power of global collaboration, computational biology, and open innovation to address complex challenges in drug discovery for neglected diseases, aligning with the vision of "affordable healthcare for all.”
Addressing the gathering in a video conference as a chief guest Dr. Rajesh S Gokhale, Secretary Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India; Director General, Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) & Chairman, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), commended the organizers of the Genomics India Conference (GIC) 2025 and emphasized genomic tools for food security through agri-biotechnology, sustainable farming practices, and ongoing mission programs on various crops.
Dr Raja Mugasimangalam, Founder & CEO – Genotypic Technology and co-convener of Genomics India 2025 in his welcome address said “Over three days, GIC 2025 brought together over 60+ expert speakers across wide-ranging domains—from Cancer, Microbiome, and Human Genome Studies to Agricultural, Veterinary, Ayurvedic, and Infectious Disease Genomics—creating an unrivaled hub for knowledge, innovation, and collaboration. This conference also witnessed the first AI for life sciences mini symposium where in beyond genomics AI can play a role and how India can innovate using RAG models and have enterprise level AI for each institution.
Dr Sudha Rao, Co-Founder, Genotypic Technology and Founder of Dhiti Omics Technology, released the details of the India’s first T2T plant genome Indian Punjab Basmati Rice project, which was taken up in collaboration with Dr S Srivignesh, Assistant Professor of Horticulture at the School of Life Sciences, Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur. She also unveiled the details about India’s First Telomere-to-Telomere Human Genome of Sample 008 at the conference.
Prof. K. V. S. Hari Director of CBR, IISc, Prof. Debnath Pal, CDS, IISc, co-convener of GIC 2025, Dr Piero Carninci - HUGO President were also present on the occasion.
