Skill development to be built for Nanotechnology: Karnataka CM

The Decennial edition of 'BENGALURU INDIA NANO 2018' opened today at The Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru with the theme 'Nano for a Better World'. 

The focus of the event will be on a range of issues pertaining to Research, Technology Development, Skills Requirement, Risks Issues, Regulatory & Governance Structure, Investment and Collaborations between R&D, Academia & Industry. The Event is expected to have significant participation from Chief Scientific Officers, Chief Technology Officers, Policy Makers,  Scientists, Chemists, Research Leaders / Fellows / Advisors from Industry, Venture Capitalists, Governments and Research Institutions.

During the inaugural address, Prof CNR Rao, National Research Professor congratulated Karnataka government for its tremendous support towards science over the years. "The National Institute of Nanotechnology in Bengaluru has started functioning with full support from Karnataka government. There are a number of challenges facing the mankind today. In order to address those, it is imperative to discover something new and innovative that can make a whole lot of difference for everyone. It is an open challenge for the Nanotech institute to come up with something in line with a Na-Nose for early detection of lung cancer", said Prof CNR Rao.

The inaugural ceremony was also graced by the presence of HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister, Karnataka, and KJ George, Minister for IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka.

"Over the years, Bengaluru has become the science capital of India and soon the city will be recognised as a Nanotech hub. It is an open invitation for the industry captains to come ahead and work towards building Centres of Excellence (CoE) along with academia, for promoting the field of nanotechnology. Also, skill development needs to be built for this sector. The government will provide all the support required by carrying out public-private partnerships in naotechnology", mentioned HD Kumaraswamy.

The inaugural function also saw the felicitation of Prof S Sampath, Dept of Inorganic & Physical Chemistry, IISc, Bengaluru for receiving the Prof CNR Rao Bengaluru India Nano Science Award 2018.

Bengaluru India Nano 2018 is packed with conferences, exhibitions, tutorials and much more for the coming two days (6th & 7th Dec 2018).
