ICAR research must be directed at farmer's benefits

Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan visited ICAR-National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology (NIRJAFT), Kolkata recently. The agriculture minsiter addressed a gathering of Directors and In-Charges of ICAR institutes in and around Kolkata.

Dr Balyan, in his address, mentioned the need for more proactive research and for that the mandate of ICAR institutes should be relooked to provide better quality service to the farmers for achieving more productivity using minimum resources rather than generation of scientific knowledge only. He emphasized that time is changing so development of machinery or technology must suit the requirements of the farmers.

Directors of ICAR Institutes briefed Minister on the research priorities, achievements and scope of work of the respective institutes.

Scientists, Technical and Administrative staff of ICAR institutes participated in the meeting.
