James Watson 'Father of DNA' auctioning off his Nobel Prize
James Watson, considered the 'Father of DNA' is selling his Nobel Prize. In 1962 he received the Nobel Prize for discovering the structure of DNA along with Francis Crick.
Mr. Watson has kept a reserve price of $2.5 million for the medal at the auction on Thursday.
According to various media reports, Mr Watson was widely shunned for his racist comments in an interview with the Sunday Times in 2007, his public lectures dried up and he was sacked from the boards of companies.
Mr Watson will use the money from the auction to supplement his academic income, donate to academic institutions and charity, and perhaps buy a David Hockney artwork.
