PAU renews MoU with Syngenta

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has extended its agreement with Syngenta India, one of country's leading agribusiness companies, for three years.

Under its public-private partnership program, PAU had first signed a MoU with Syngenta India in October 2008 and again in October 2011 to jointly undertake projects aimed towards sustainable development in the agricultural sector. Now the MOU is further extended for three years upto December, 2017.

PAU and Syngenta have a singular aim, that of enhancing productivity and quality of farm produce in Punjab, by adopting latest technology in key crops like Corn, Rice, Wheat and Potato.

Under the MoU Syngenta and PAU will initiate projects to develop and demonstrate crop solutions and educate growers on enhancing productivity, quality, and shelf life of their farm produce. The two organizations will also jointly undertake other related research and development activities.

“Syngenta and PAU are working together to bring to Punjab growers an array of crop solutions for cotton, wheat, rice, potato, vegetables and corn which will help Punjab farmers diversify. These solutions will support farmers in all 22 districts of the state increase yield and productivity. Our partnership with PAU over the past few years has been very fruitful and insightful for us. We have gained a lot through our collaboration with the university,� said Bipin Solanki, MD & Territory Head, Syngenta South Asia.

Dr Balwinder Singh, Director of Research, PAU, suggested tie-up in the areas of direct seeded rice technology, integrated pest management and spraying application techniques. Besides, he also wished to have cooperation in promoting cultivation of maize and sugarcane for diversification.
