Ebola has killed 2000 people so far, in the world deadliest outbreak in West Africa
US President, Mr Barack Obama has warned member nations that Ebola could be a huge threat to the world, as the outbreak shows no healing signs and the number of cases are increasing with every passing day. He emphasized that US must lead the international community in arresting the outbreak.
He added that the American military will be setting up isolation units and equipment in West Africa to provide security for public health workers flocking from around the world. The US President said, "There is no relief in sight, at least for the next few months."
Though Mr Obama maintained that the risk of Ebola spreading to the US was very low, he warned that if the outbreak was not arrested soon, the virus could mutate and this would pose a serious threat to public health.
Amid Ebola crisis, Sierra Leone has ordered a three day lock down starting on September 19, as part of an effort to stop the spread of Ebola, that has killed more than 2,000 people across West Africa. As a measure to stop the Ebola menace, the FDA had fast tracked the status of many experimental interventions that are under development for Ebola. Reports suggest that an experimental Ebola vaccine, similar to the GlaxoSmithKline's Ebola vaccine has proved effective for five weeks in protecting lab monkeys.
