West Pharmaceutical Packaging India (WPPI), a subsidiary of West Pharmaceutical Services (WPS), provides standard-setting systems and device components for parenterally administered medicines. The company has registered an estimated revenue of

124 crore during 2011-12. WPPI has recorded growth rate of over 35 percent in India in the last couple of years. This growth is driving construction of plants in India. The company is setting up a rubber manufacturing facility which is expected to be commissioned in 2013.
WPS applies proprietary materials science, formulation research and manufacturing innovation to advance the quality, therapeutic value, development speed and rapid market availability of pharmaceuticals, biologics, vaccines and consumer healthcare products. It serves a wide spectrum of customers, ranging from new domestic manufacturers to multinationals. Some of the major manufacturers served in India include Biocon, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Ranbaxy Laboratories and Serum Institute of India.
Last year WPS entered into collaboration with other companies to develop devices and evaluate technologies which are of importance to Indian companies. In 2011, WPS announced that it will jointly develop and market a new, needle-free vial access device along with CareFusion, a global medical technology company. The new product is intended not only to help prevent leaks, but also reduce contamination and risk of exposure during a drug product's reconstitution process.
WPS also announced an agreement with Amgen, a biotechnology pioneer, to evaluate Daikyo Crystal Zenith technologies for drug containment, which are based on a polymeric container, utilizing elastomeric components with flurotec barrier film, and provided in a sterile, validated, ready-to-fill format.
In November 2011, WPS collaborated with Vetter, a leading international independent specialist in the aseptic filling of drug-delivery systems, to provide customers with the ability to source filled Daikyo Crystal Zenith syringes.
WPS announced the availability of a new line of steam-sterilized plungers for prefillable glass syringes under its NovaPure brand. Through a product development process that incorporates quality by design principles, NovaPure components, including serum and lyophilization stoppers and syringe plungers, will help to ensure the safety, efficacy and purity of injectable drug products.
