Department of Biotechnology

The department of biotechnology at the University of Jammu was established in December 1998 with major funding from Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. Admission to the  university that offers MSc and MTech in biotechnology is made through the national JNU entrance test. The first batch of students was admitted in August 1999. Out of the 80-odd postgraduate students produced by the department, most of them have opted for higher studies and few have joined the industry.
The students have also been selected for PhD programs of reputed research institutes namely IISc, CCMB, NII and NBRC. The department has developed a well-knit course curriculum to help students to gain placements in research institutions of international repute. The department has also been selected for FIST grants by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
