Mahyco chairman gets ICAR Lifetime Achievement Award
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) awarded Dr Badrinarayan Barwale, chairman, Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company (Mahyco) with the ICAR Excellence Award. The award acknowledged the contribution and innovation that Dr Barwale made to the Indian agriculture sector for the past five decades. The award was given away by Union minister for Agriculture and Food Processing Industry Shri Sharad Pawar. The award ceremony concluded at Baramati, Maharashtra.
Keeping in mind the title of 'Father of Indian seed indusrty', ICAR, which is the prima body for agri research and education in country, conferred the Life Time Achievement Award to Dr Barwale for his outstanding innovative approaches in the agriculture sector which in turned changed the course of life of millions of farmers. This award was assessed on various indicators of performance and contribution by a panel of eminent jury members.
The awards saw the like of Dr Charan Das Mahant, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industry; Shri Ajit Pawar, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra; and Dr DS Ayyappan, secretary DARE and director general, ICAR, along with other leading industry experts.
The award holds a greater significance not only for Dr Barwale but for Mahyco as well. Mahyco is currently basking in the glory of golden jubilee celebration period. Over the last 50 years Mahyco has been the delivering company for farmers in terms of providing cutting edge technology in agriculture sector by providing high quality seeds.
Dr Barwale on being honoured with this award expressed, "It's indeed an great momentto receive the award from Mr Sharad Pawar and this award will further motivate me to strive harder to provide superior quality seeds to farmers and their by improve their future."
