EMD Millipore, Luminex in distribution deal

EMD Millipore, the life sciences division of Germany's
Merck, has commenced worldwide distribution of the new Magpix system,
from US-based multiplex technology leader Luminex.
EMD Millipore acquired the original Luminex reagent partners – Linco
and Upstate – for life sciences research in 2006. Since that
acquisition, the company has strengthened its commitment to the xMAP
platform through its growing line of Milliplex Map kits, analysis
software, and global salesforce.
Based on Luminex's xMAP Technology, the easy-to-use, low-maintenance
Magpix instrument is compact – comparable in size to a desktop computer
– making it attractive to smaller and lower-volume laboratories and
institutions with limited resources and bench space. The instrument is
said to provide fast, accurate and easily reproducible results, helping
to advance research across many disease states such as metabolic,
inflammation, toxicity and neuroscience, as well as applications in
oncology and cell signaling.
