The research and development (R&D) proposals approved for support against the Indo-Brazil joint call for proposal (2013-16) by DBT and CNPq include few interesting topics in various areas of biotechnology.
There are three projects in the area of biomedicine. The first one is of the investigators/ proposal title area Dr. K Satyamoorthy and Prof. Raghuvir K Arni on functional and structural characterization of snake venom proteins with angiogenic potential from Bothrops atrox. The second one is being undertaken by Dr P Yogeeswari and Prof Diógenes Santiago on the project 'Santos Enzymes from Purine and Pyrimidine Biosyntetic pathway as targets for the development of Mycobacterium tuberculosis drugs,' The third project in biomedicines is being spearheaded by Dr Suresh Korpole and Prof Octávio Luiz Franco for the project on 'Antimicrobial recombinant peptides and lipopeptides production for treatment of nosocomial infections.'
Under the bioenergy vertical, the project on 'synthesis of bioethanol from sugarcane bagasse in a membrane - Integrated Hybrid System - A Green Technology Approach' is being undertaken by by Dr Jaya Sikder from India and Silvio Silvério da Silva form Brazil respectively.
The project under nanotechnology vertical is carried out by Dr Arunava Goswami and Prof. José Paulo Gagliardi Leite. The same is focussed on 'Rotavirus detection with novel nano tools nranotechnology.'
