DSS initiated a joint venture with Takara Bio Inc., Japan, which resulted in the formation of DSS Takara Bio India. The new spin off company is looking at strengthening its manufacturing capabilities to offer competitive research reagent and kits suited for the local market needs. DSS Takara Bio is expected to release its first series of products by September 2012, which will pass the strict quality control parameters set up by Takara Bio Japan.
Dr Ushakar Nag, director, DSS Takara Bio says, “With opportunities arising out of increased research funding and the lack of manufacturing units in the country, this JV can play an important role in this direction. We plan to offer the diagnostic kits at a never seen before price in India. I hope that this JV will be able to fill the void with a focus on kits.�
The life sciences division of the company focuses on molecular biology and molecular diagnostics. Last year, the company saw a commendable growth in its consumables business.
DSS enjoys a unique position as the most informed supplier of microscopes and digital imaging solutions in the country. It entered into a collaboration with Sakura Finetek for its Micro-Imaging division. Sakura is the original manufacturer of the tissue processors, embedder, rotary microtome, and centrifuges that have become industry standards in histopathology market. DSS also tied with ibidi, a leading supplier for functional cell based assays and advanced products for cellular microscopy.
DSS continues to provide training in the field of IHC, FISH and advance imaging to enable the customer to hone their experimental skills.
To tap the rapidly growing medical and surgical market in India, DSS has set up its Medical Division and tied up with world leaders such as Olympus Medical Systems for the latters flexible gastroenterology and bronchoscopy products.
