The Drug and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill, 2015 has been prepared by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. The new bill is set to make amendments in the existing Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. It will cover much anticipated upgradation and introduction of provisions for clinical trials and regulation of medical devices.
The bill, if introduced in the Parliament, is expected to generate enough debate among lawmakers and media alike. This will fulfill the long pending demands of conccerned industry bodies.
Keeping in view the government's intention to make changes in price control regime and promote generics, the Central Drug Standards and Control Organization (CDSCO) might soon release a new National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) in 2015.
