BIRAC continues to serve as a single window for emerging biotech companies.
BIG is for high level of innovation in the biotechnology sector as it does not support basic research projects. The scheme enables technology innovators and entrepreneurs to pursue a promising technology idea, and establish and validate proof of concept (POC) for the idea. The scheme supports only up-to Proof-of-Concept stage and grant-in-Aid is upto Rs 50 lakh and is 18 months mentoring support and project monitoring by BIG Partner. The proposals can be sent by start-ups or entrepreneurs having a registered company incorporated on or after January 01, 2012. Academicians, scientists, researchers, medical degree holders, biomedical engineers or graduates incubating in a Technology Business Incubator Who have innovative technology idea with considerable potential for commercialization. Only Online submission of proposal is allowed under BIG scheme. Registrations can be done on BIRAC website under “BIG User� for submission of proposal round the clock. It is important to note that the prior recipient of BIG grant are ineligible. Proposal Submission has already started on January, 01 and it closes on Fenruary 15, 2015.
