Wosulin-first recombinant human insulin from Wockhardt

Ltd has launched Wosulin, India's first recombinant human insulin. It has been
developed using the latest yeast-based technology, which is believed to be
superior to the earlier method based on E.coli bacteria. This recombinant human
insulin avoids the risks of viral infections like Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis
(BSE), Transmissible Spongiform Encephalitis (TSE), Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD)
and other neurological disorders associated with insulin derived from animals.
Wosulin was approved by the regulatory authorities after it proved its efficacy
and safety in clinical studies involving 350 diabetic patients, conducted by
leading diabetic experts at reputed medical institutions across the country. It
is available at Rs 129 per unit.

FBL introduces latest version of PGA Biocatalyst
Fermenta Biotech Limited (FBL) has introduced the latest version of Penicillin G Amidase (PGA) biocatalyst known as PGA–Fermenta 2, in a polymer support with high specific activity, improved operational stability and economic advantages. FBL has pioneered manufacture of PGA biocatalyst in India, which is a vital enzyme used for splitting Penicillin G and Cephalosporin G into respective drug intermediates, like 6-APA and 7-ADCA. Fermenta 2 is a purified enzyme mount on macroporous polymer beads. Though PGA enzyme catalyst can be used for 7-ADCA and 6-APA, it is recommended for the manufacture of 6-APA.
