Bannari Amman Institute of Technology is an autonomous
university affiliated to Anna University. The Department of
Biotechnology was established in the year 2003. It offers the full-time
four-year BTech program in biotechnology as well as the full-time
two-year MTech program in biotechnology. The BTech curriculum provides
an equal mix of life sciences, chemical engineering, and bioprocess
engineering subjects and labs. The department has been recognized by
Anna University as a collaborative research center for the PhD program.
Laboratory facilities offered include areas like biochemistry,
bioorganic chemistry, microbiology, chemical engineering, cell biology,
bioprocess engineering, molecular biology, genetic engineering,
immunology, downstream processing, bioinformatics, instrumental
analysis. During summer vacation, the department of biotechnology, has
been sending third and fourth semester students for summer internship
at Syngenta Seeds AB, Sweden. The trainees acquire research skills in
various areas of seed pathology, germplasm enhancement, marker-assisted
breeding, genetic engineering, genomics, biochemistry and cell biology.
