Delivering his keynote address at the special plenary session of the National Conference on HIV/AIDS organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with Indian Business Trust (IBT) and National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), he said, "India has quite a challenge with AIDS but it is well within the country's ability to withstand."
"Already in six states the disease has reached epidemic levels. HIV is much more than a health problem," stated Kapil Sibal, minister of state (independent charge) for science and technology and ocean development, while delivering his inaugural address during the first session of the conference. Elucidating on the success stories of Uganda and Thailand, Sibal stressed that projects on AIDS need proper funding, implementation and sustenance. The Smart Health Card for HIV /AIDS, the latest service offered by CII, was launched by Sibal during the conference.
