ICMR transfers three indigenous medical technologies to industry

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) participated in a special programme on the occasion of National Technology Day 2026, organised by BRIC- National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi.

The event was graced by the presence of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh; Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA); Dr Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Director General, ICMR, and other dignitaries.

As part of its demonstration programme, ICMR showcased six high-impact indigenous technologies spanning the bio-pharma, health and bio-industrial and green chemical sectors. These included Covaxin, COVID Kavach ELISA kit, CRISPR-Cas based TB detection system, Nipah point-of-care assay, a diagnostic ELISA kit for dengue detection and a biolarvicide for mosquito control .

In addition, an official compilation was released during the event that contains 25 new products developed by various ICMR institutes.

A major attraction of the event was the transfer of three innovative technologies developed by ICMR, to industry partners.

The first technique, titled 'Development of affordable PSP 94 ELISA for guiding biopsy decisions in patients with PSA less than 20 ng/ml', developed by National Institute for Research in Women's Health. The technology was licensed to KrishGen Labs.

The second technology transfer included 'Factor VIII Inhibitors/ Coagulation Disorder Point-of-Care Diagnostic' developed by National Institute for Research on Blood and Immune Disorders (ICMR-NIRBID). The technology was licensed to Merrill Life Sciences.

The third technique 'Single-tube multiplex real-time RT-PCR to detect dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses', developed by National Institute of Virology, was licensed to Vanguard Life Sciences.
