TechInvention Lifecare partners with Institute of Life Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar to expedite development of indigenous TB vaccine

According to the Global TB Report 2025, India has the highest burden of tuberculosis (TB) in the world, accounting for 25% of all global TB cases. Further, the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) situation is critical, as we have recorded 32% of the world's drug-resistant TB cases. Thus, an effective and affordable vaccine is the need of the hour in our armamentarium to achieve the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Status’.

While there are vaccine candidates in various stages of development globally, Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) and IIT Bhubaneswar have developed Bharat’s 100% indigenous NexGen vaccine KochVac, which is taking shape via a Public-Private Partnership model, along with TechInvention Lifecare.

BioSpectrum India recently attended a round-table discussion with policy experts, scientists and industry leaders to advance the conversation around India’s indigenous TB vaccine and its pathway from research to public health impact.

To take things forward, TechInvention plans to initiate the regulatory process in the next few months, with human trials to begin in second half of 2027.

"The pathogen complexity being immense is resulting TB in being the No 1 infectious killer coupled with AMR. This made the forum so critical with the discussion encompassing: antigen design, epitope selection, adjuvant strategy, animal models, formulation and also a possible Quality Target Product Profile (QTTP) for programmatic suitability contributing to TB Mukt Bharat", said Dr Syed S Ahmed, Founder, TechInvention Lifecare.
