In a groundbreaking move towards inclusivity and healthcare excellence, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre has announced a significant milestone. Under the support of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) scheme, the institution recently launched a cochlear implant programme for deaf-mute children.

Cochlear implant surgery is a medical procedure that can significantly enhance the quality of life for children with hearing disabilities.

The first cochlear implant surgery took place on November 5, 2023, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr Hetal Marfatia, HOD, Dept of ENT, KEM Mumbai. Dr Vinod Shinde, a distinguished Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre and Dr Mubarak Khan, an Adjunct Professor at the same department, provided invaluable assistance.
