The Indian GLP-1 agonist market continued its rapid expansion in MAT May 2026, with moving annual sales reaching Rs 1,906 crore, bringing the anti-obesity segment close to the Rs 2,000 crore milestone. According to Pharmarack data, Tirzepatide remained the dominant molecule in the category, generating Rs 1,207 crore in MAT May 2026 sales and accounting for approximately 63 per cent of the market.

Semaglutide followed with Rs 589 crore in sales and a 31 per cent market share, meaning the two blockbuster molecules together contributed nearly 94 per cent of the total GLP-1 market value. Other molecules remained comparatively small. Dulaglutide recorded Rs 69 crore in MAT sales, while Liraglutide contributed Rs 39 crore, together accounting for roughly 6 per cent of the market.

The longer-term growth profile remains striking. The overall GLP-1 market has grown from Rs 127 crore in MAT May 2022 to Rs 1,906 crore in MAT May 2026, representing a five-year CAGR of 237 per cent. Tirzepatide, launched more recently, has scaled to Rs 1,207 crore with a 97 per cent CAGR over the reported period, while Semaglutide has expanded from Rs 20 crore in MAT May 2022 to Rs 589 crore in MAT May 2026, delivering an exceptional 2,541 per cent CAGR. Dulaglutide grew at a more moderate 44 per cent CAGR, whereas Liraglutide has begun to contract, posting a negative 9 per cent CAGR.

Commenting on the trend, Sheetal Sapale, Vice President – Commercial, Pharmarack Technologies, said, "MAT May 2026 marks a transition for the Indian GLP-1 market from an early-launch story to a meaningful therapeutic category. With the market approaching Rs 2,000 crore and Tirzepatide and Semaglutide together contributing nearly 94 per cent of value, the segment is now being shaped less by the number of brands launched and more by physician confidence, patient access and the ability to sustain long-term treatment adoption. The next phase of growth will depend on how effectively the industry expands the treated patient pool through affordability and broader access, rather than expecting the same launch-driven acceleration seen in the initial generic expansion phase."

The MAT May 2026 data therefore suggests that the Indian GLP-1 market has evolved into a sizeable chronic-therapy category led overwhelmingly by Tirzepatide and Semaglutide, with future growth likely to depend on deeper patient penetration rather than merely adding more brands to the market.
