Various MoUs were signed during Biotech Conclave 2022
Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma recently inaugurated the Technology Incubation Centre of Guwahati Biotech Park at Amingaon, Guwahati and Assam Biotech Conclave in the presence of Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister, Science Technology and Climate Change, Assam Keshab Mahanta. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Assam, and Prof TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati were also present during the inauguration of the Technology Incubation Centre and Assam Biotech Conclave 2022.
MoUs were exchanged between Guwahati Biotech Park and Numaligarh Refinery, CSIR –NEIST, Jorhat, Royal Global University, Guwahati, University of Science Technology and Management, Guwahati, Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development, IASST Social Venture and Entrepreneurship Council, Atal Incubation Centre BIMTECH, Noida, NRDC and tripartite MoU amongst Guwahati Biotech Park, Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises and Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in North East and neighbouring states
Assam Biotech Policy, 2022-27 was also launched during the inaugural ceremony. The biotech policy focuses on developing biotech infrastructure, improving biotech education, research and innovation, advancement in technology and entrepreneurship support, developing the biotech industry, introducing business support cells, managing accreditations and quality certifications, single-window clearance through the nodal agency, North East Vision Group on Biotechnology, and Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology.
Best Young Innovative Entrepreneur Award was presented to Sidharth Arora from IIT Roorkee, Best Young Women Entrepreneur Award to Dr Ananya Barman from Assam and Best Young Innovative entrepreneur award North East to Kaustoov Gopal Goswami from Assam.
Guwahati Biotech Park in association with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati hosted the two-day Assam Biotech Conclave 2022.
Dr Anil Gupta, Founder, Honey bee Network & SRISTI took a special session on Grassroot Innovations with Focus on North-East. A special session by Dr Nagaraja Prakasam, Partner, Acumen Fund was also a part of the two-day long conclave. Panel discussions were conducted on ‘Conundrum of Incubators in India’, ‘Ease of Doing Business for Start-ups’, ‘Decoding Mentorship for Startups’, ‘Smart Protein opportunities in India’, ‘Chasing Sustainability in Agri-tech’, ‘India at the cusp of Med-Tech Revolution’ and ‘Spirit of Entrepreneurship in Young India’ with industry experts and member of academia.
As a part of the conclave, Assam Bio-Innovation Fellowship (ABF) program was also launched by Guwahati Biotech Park. ABF is a highly competitive scheme instituted by the Assam Biotechnology Council (ABTC) under the Science, Technology and Climate Change Department, Government of Assam to recognise and reward scientists below the age of 55 with an excellent track record and have made significant scientific contributions in Biotechnology and allied areas. The winners are Ningombam Sanjib Meitei, Incubatee of Guwahati Biotech Park and Imnanaro, Research Scholar, IIT Guwahati.
