To foster collaboration across startup acceleration

The IT BT Department, Government of Karnataka, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Consulate General of Italy in Bengaluru to set up the Indo-Italian Innovation Hub in Karnataka.

This flagship initiative will foster collaboration across Startup acceleration; Bilateral academic exchange; Talent mobility between India and Italy.

Together, the countries aim to build a vibrant platform for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. Italy is an ideal place to locate for Foodtech, Health and Energy & Environment startups.

Italy’s Startup Ecosystem is a regional Leader in innovation, ranked at number 31 globally and at number 15 for startups in Western Europe.

India and Italy have enjoyed a long-standing partnership in scientific research, particularly through the Synchrotron facility, Elettra, in Trieste. Indian scientists are the second-largest users of this facility after their Italian counterparts.

Back in 2024, at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Giorgia Meloni has unveiled the Italy-India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 to deepen bilateral ties across diverse sectors, including science, technology, innovation, startups and healthcare.
