Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology

The department of microbiology under the Gujarat University  was established in 1976. The department offers MSc in microbiology with specialization in environmental microbiology and biotechnology. It also provides MPhil and PhD degrees in various field of microbiology and microbial technology, and is engaged in active research and have completed many research projects funded by government as well as industries.
The department has five faculties with specialization in various areas of microbiology and microbial technology. Research facilities are available for the major thrust area in the field of metal bioleaching, bioremediation of organic and inorganic pollutants such as metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, synthetic dyes, microbial diversity, extremophiles, microbial polymers, biofertilizers, PGPR, pesticide degradation, microbial enzymes.
