These along with the large network of preexisting research laboratories, institutes and universities have given Andhra an impressive head start in biotechnology. A quick glimpse.
ICICI Knowledge Park
Developed jointly by ICICI, a premier financial institution and the Andhra Pradesh government
Situated in a 200-acre campus in Genome Valley, Hyderabad
Offers excellent research facilities through modern modular lab units, customized research centres and pilot plants
Is developing a unique interactive Knowledge Network for facilitating academic, research institutions and industry partnershipof which the virtual information centre is a key component
Is closely interacting with 20 key academic and R&D institutions
Has an integrated IPR facilitating cell. It cater to the growing demands of the industries in AP for patent search and analysis, patentability advisory services, IPR awareness and training
Agri-business Incubator
A national facility and set in the ICRISAT campus with an initial corpus fund of Rs 2.5 crore
Provides business support to existing and new agri-business developed and housed at ICRISAT
Is accelerating the development and transfer of agricultural based technology
Provides infrastructure support and environment to entrepreneurs on cost basis for commercializing technologies developed by ICRISAT and its partners and other institutions like ICAR and CSIR
Agribiotech Park
200 acre park in the ICRISAT campus
Attract world class agribiotech companies, corporations and foundations to establish their units
Institute of Life Sciences (ILS)
To be established in the Hyderabad University campus
A world-class centre of excellence in life sciences
MoU signed on ILS between the Hyderabad university and Institute of Life Sciences on 5.1.2004
A proposal to set up a science incubator and science park in the adjoining area for research in new frontiers of sciences like nanotechnology, bio-medical engineering, etc.
Centre of Excellence for Medical Bioinformatics
MoU signed in February 2002, came to fruition in February 2004
Located in the new campus of CDFD in Gandipet, Hyderabad
Asia's third and India's first Sun Microsystems Centre of Excellence (CoE)
Sun would be making an investment of $5million over a period of time in the CoE
Will develop a data warehouse linking genomic data to patient genetic and clinical data and develop tools to mine that data in biologically and medically meaningful ways
Marine Biotech Park
Launched at Parvada (V) near Visakhapatnam on 11th December 2003.
Spread on an area of 218 acres located close to the coast
First of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, is dedicated for establishment of marine biotech companies who intend to start their activities in Visakhapatnam.
A Marine Bio-Resources Development Centre is also coming up in the park in association with Andhra University to concentrate on R& D works related to marine organisms including microorganisms, algae, sea weeds, shrimp, crab and species of fish.
Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park
Rs. 1 billion joint venture project between Shapoorji Pallonji Co Pvt Ltd and Andhra Pradesh government
Spread over 400 acres in the Genome Valley, Hyderabad
Is equipped with facilities to develop a product right from the "lab to market"
A biotech incubator with lab facilities for R&D
Pilot plant for scale-up and downstream processing
