In-situ hybridization including FISH is an important research tool!

The workshop being organized at the Safdarjung hospital Delhi campus by NIP, an Indian Council for Medical Research institute, is intended for medical and biomedical faculty and students to become conversantwith this technique and apply the knowledge in their respective fields.It is tailored in such a waythat the participants will get hands- on experience about the old elaborate method of doing in-situhybridization as well as the new advanced method of flourescent in-situ hybridization (FISH).

In addition, theoretical concepts will be provided through lectures and discussions to facilitate thelearning process.The main objective of this course is to equip the candidates with anunderstanding of concepts pertaining to in-situ hybridization and FISH and hands-on experiencefor its application in various fields.

In-situ hybridization including FISH is an important research tool which has made strong inroadsinto diagnostic pathology in recent years. It has an important diagnostic and prognostic value inoncology where it is used to detect cytogenetic and chromosomal abnormalities in varioustumors.It is also applied for detection of various infective agents like viruses and bacteria.
