Govt advances research, standardisation and quality assessment of herbal medicines

The Drugs Code Commission of India (IPC), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has reinforced its commitment to the vision of a developed Uttar Pradesh-developed India by signing and renewing two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU), Lucknow and CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP).

The renewed MoU with CSIR-CIMAP will continue to collaborate in research, standardisation and quality evaluation of herbal medicines.

The main objective of the new MoU with DSMNRU is to develop scientific protocols to assess the quality, safety and functionality of assistive devices used by Divyangjan. The collaboration will also support the development of pharmacovigilance training modules in sign language to promote drug safety awareness and reporting of adverse drug reactions among persons with disabilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr V. Kalaiselvan said that these collaborations will strengthen scientific research, quality standards, and institutional partnerships, helping Uttar Pradesh emerge as a centre of excellence in the field of healthcare and drug quality. He emphasised that such initiatives directly contribute to the shared vision of 'Viksit UP-Viksit Bharat' by improving access to safe, effective, and quality health products.
