Telangana propels to become $145 B Life Sciences Ecosystem

Witnessing fastest expansion with Rs 84,000 crore in investments over the last two years

Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem has achieved a landmark milestone, reaching an estimated valuation of $145 billion, fuelled by over Rs 84,000 crore in investments over the past two years—the fastest expansion in the state’s history.

This transformative progress was highlighted during the 7th Board Meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation (TLSF), chaired by Industries & Commerce Minister D. Sridhar Babu. Shakthi M. Nagappan, CEO of TLSF, delivered a detailed presentation on the sector’s growth during his decade-long tenure, underscoring the last two years as a pivotal inflexion point under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Minister (Industries and Commerce) D. Sridhar Babu.

The life sciences sector has expanded nearly threefold since 2016, establishing Hyderabad as one of the world’s premier life sciences clusters across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, and health tech innovation. A standout achievement: Hyderabad now hosts technology and innovation centres from nine of the world’s top ten life sciences companies—the only region outside the United States with this distinction.

Key drivers include robust policy frameworks, strategic global partnerships, and targeted institution-building, cementing Telangana’s status as a highly integrated global ecosystem.

The Board unanimously commended CEO Shakthi M. Nagappan for his leadership in shaping and scaling the ecosystem during this transformational phase. The Board further noted with appreciation that, in recognition of his contributions, the Government has appointed him as Advisor (Lifesciences), and that he will continue to serve on the Board of the Telangana Lifesciences Foundation.

"Telangana’s life sciences sector has witnessed unprecedented growth over the past two years", the Minister stated. While the majority of the committed investments have been grounded, the Minister suggested that the investment MoUs executed for Green Pharma City, cumulatively amounting to about Rs 20,000 crore, should be grounded at the earliest.

The meeting also introduced TLSF’s new CEO, Sarvesh Singh, who outlined the 2026-27 priorities. The Board emphasised the need to sustain the momentum of ecosystem growth and that accelerating the implementation of the Life Sciences Policy that has received overwhelming response, advancing initiatives such as the Telangana School of Life Sciences, etc. should be top priorities for the foundation.
