Aeromed and Sarla Aviation join hands Vertical Take-Off and Landing air ambulances

India is getting ready next-generation medical evacuation ecosystem with Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) air ambulances. In a game-changing step for national healthcare, Aeromed International Rescue Services and Sarla Aviation have signed a game-changing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce VTOL air ambulances that are compact, drone-like aircraft that promise to redefine emergency medical transport during Golden Hours 0f medical emergencies.

The MoU was recently signed by Adrian Schmidt, CEO & Co-founder, Sarla Aviation, and Shaju Kumar KV, Director & Co-founder, Aeromed Air Ambulance. With this landmark deal, they are preparing for real-world possibilities that would redefine the way India deals with its medical emergencies including organ transport for saving lives during golden hours.

The MoU sets out a roadmap to integrate air mobility into hospital emergency protocols—including rooftop and vertiport landing facilities—and design patient-centric cabins equipped with ventilators, advanced medical equipment, and seating for doctor & paramedics.

VTOL aircraft ascend and descend vertically without a runway, while STOL aircraft operate from extremely short airstrips, opening air corridors that connect patients directly to trauma centres—even in congested cities or rugged landscapes.

Unlike traditional Air ambulances, VTOLs are designed to be more reliable, less expensive, and highly utilitarian in their early versions, with capabilities that will expand as battery power evolves.

Aeromed has indicated plans to procure VTOL/STOL aircrafts dedicatedly for air ambulance services once prototypes are certified and commercially ready.
