The third meeting of the Joint Committee on Health (JCM) between India and Japan was held at Bharat Mandapam on 5 May. Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Kimi Onoda, Minister in charge of Health Policy, Japan, jointly chaired the meeting.
Nadda said that India-Japan cooperation in the field of healthcare is guided by the Memorandum of Cooperation on Health and Wellness and the shared vision of strengthening health systems, improving access to healthcare services, and promoting innovation for better outcomes in the healthcare sector.
The Japanese delegates highlighted the ongoing initiatives for cooperation, including projects focused on strengthening treatment systems through screening for cancer detection, early detection and technical cooperation, and institutional capacity building.
The Japanese delegates also elaborated on their model of coordinated public-private cooperation aimed at increasing access to medical products and services, building robust supply chains, and facilitating the deployment of technology through streamlined partnerships.
In his concluding remarks, Nadda said that the deliberations have given new momentum to the India-Japan Health Partnership. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen cooperation in key priority areas. He emphasised that the discussions have set a clear direction for strengthening resilient and inclusive healthcare systems.
