Karnataka’s BioEconomy crosses $39.2 B in 2025, contributing 21% to India’s BioEconomy

The IT BT Department, Karnataka Government, through the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), has released the Karnataka BioEconomy Report 2025, marking a significant milestone in the State’s innovation journey.

The report was unveiled by Priyank Kharge, Minister for Information Technology & Biotechnology and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka, and highlights Karnataka’s BioEconomy crossing $39.2 billion, contributing 21% to India’s BioEconomy and over 10% to the State’s GSDP.

The sector continues to demonstrate strong, diversified growth across BioPharma ($16.44 Billion), BioIndustrial & Biomanufacturing ($11.46 Billion, fastest-growing), and BioServices & Digital Health (25.8% share).

Karnataka added 218 new biotech startups this year, taking the total to 1,451, alongside $1.14 billion in investments across 40 deals, reinforcing the State’s leadership in research, manufacturing, and commercialisation.

With expanding biotech clusters beyond Bengaluru and focused investments in infrastructure, talent, and innovation ecosystems, Karnataka remains committed to enabling next-generation biomanufacturing and sustainable economic growth, further strengthening its position as India’s leading BioEconomy hub.
