Prof. B. L. V. Prasad receives Prof. C.N.R. Rao Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science Award

Prof. B. L. V. Prasad, Director of the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, has been honoured with the prestigious Prof. C.N.R. Rao Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science Award at the 14th edition of Bengaluru INDIA NANO 2026, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to nanoscience, materials chemistry and nanotechnology.

The award was presented by D. K. Shivakumar, Chief Minister of Karnataka, during the inaugural session of the three-day global nanotechnology conference. The ceremony was attended by Priyank Kharge, Minister for Home, IT, BT and e-Governance, government of Karnataka; Dr N. Manjula, Secretary, Department of Electronics, IT, BT and Science & Technology, government of Karnataka and Prof. P. S. Anil Kumar, Chair, Conference Executive Committee (CEC), 14th Bengaluru INDIA NANO and Dean (Administration & Finance), Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and among other dignitaries.

Prof. Prasad has built an international reputation for his pioneering research in materials chemistry, nanomaterials synthesis and surface engineering. His research has significantly advanced the design and scalable production of functional nanomaterials for a wide range of technological applications.

Over the course of his scientific career, Prof. Prasad has developed innovative flow-based methods for the large-scale synthesis of metal and semiconductor nanoparticles and has made notable contributions to the development of organic-inorganic hybrid nanostructures with precisely engineered surface properties. His work has strengthened India's capabilities in nanomaterials research and opened new avenues for applications in electronics, catalysis, sensing and energy.

A prolific researcher, Prof. Prasad has authored more than 125 papers in leading international peer-reviewed journals and holds eight international patents. His scientific contributions have earned widespread recognition within the global research community.

In addition to the Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science Award, Prof. Prasad is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and the Indian Academy of Sciences. He is also a recipient of the Prof. C.N.R. Rao National Prize for Chemical Research and the MRSI-ICSC Materials Science Annual Prize.

The Prof. C.N.R. Rao Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science Award is among the country's most prestigious recognitions in nanoscience and is presented annually to scientists whose research has made a transformative impact on the advancement of nanotechnology and its applications.
