The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is spearheading the BRICS BioDesign Programme to advance healthcare innovation and medical technology across BRICS member nations. The initiative was recently launched in New Delhi by Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Ajay Kumar Sood.
The launch included the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement among participating institutions and the unveiling of the official programme website. The programme operates through a collaborative framework involving AMTZ, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, FICCI, and the Science & Technology Cluster.
It aims to connect researchers, healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and commercial stakeholders to accelerate the deployment of affordable and accessible medical technologies.
As part of the launch, Prof. Sood delivered an address highlighting the significance of BRICS+ cooperation in advancing medtech innovation. He underscored India’s leadership role in the BRICS framework and highlighted the AMTZ-Vizag S&T Cluster, which serves as the Secretariat, as a unique example of bringing together clinical expertise, engineering, prototyping, manufacturing and regulatory capabilities on a single collaborative platform.
Prof. Sood also mentioned the integrated approach of BRICS+ Biodesign Program, which aims to establish a structured, multi-country platform for medical technology innovation across BRICS+ member states.
