Synthetic and Systems biology offers tremendous opportunity areas to explore in the coming decade!
As per organizers of the conference, the aim of Indo US workshop in Synthetic Biology is to bring together synthetic biology communities in India and the US to find scientific problems of social relevance, highlight educational requirements and identify collaboration opportunities and various funding pathways.
The synthetic biology is said to have made its formal appearance in India in October 2010 with the Biodesign India symposium at the University of Kerala. This event created a synthetic biology interest group (SynJeevani) comprising of students, faculty and administrators.
The second synthetic biology event was held two years later at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Dec 2012.
Among the speakers this time are Dr K Vijay Raghavan, secretary, department of biotechnology (DBT); Dr Himadri Pakrasi, director, I-CARES, Washington University; Dr Indira Ghosh, professor,Computational and Integrative Sciences, JNU; Dr K J Mukherjee, dean, School of Biotechnology, JNU; Dr Arvind Lali, head, DBT-ICT Centre for Energy Biosciences, ICT, Mumbai; Dr S Ramasami, CEO, C-CAMP and many more scientists of international repute.
The event is expected to bring together Indian scientists and researchers from the US National science Foundation, Washington University and Department of Biotechnology.A large number of delegates from academia and industry are expected to attend the events besides the students who have been also offered sponserships by the organizers on the basis of selection in the criteria.
