Manipal Health appoints president

Manipal Health Enterprises, one of Asia's largest provider of quaternary healthcare services, has announced the promotion of Dr Nagendra Swamy as President. Dr Swamy's contribution to the organization has been immense. He has been at the forefront-striving to achieve clinical excellence in all healthcare delivery services for the group. His contribution in achieving a quantum jump in revenues in the last five years, is highly laudable. Dr Swamy will be spearheading the brand building and expansion exercise for Manipal Group of Hospitals, across India.

Dr Sanjay Goel bags US research award
Dr Sanjay Goel, a medical oncologist and researcher at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, US, adopts an unique approach to his colorectal cancer research. For his efforts, he was awarded American Society of Clinical Oncology Cancer Foundation's Advanced Clinical Research Award. He will receive a three-year award totaling $450,000 to support original research.

Dr Goel received the award for his research project titled “A novel pharmacogenomic-based therapeutic approach for patients with KRAS mutant metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) using an oncolytic reovirus.” His research focuses on the anti-cancer activity of reovirus serotype-3 in combination with irinotecan for the treatment of patients with KRAS mutant mCRC. Reovirus, a common community-acquired virus that causes mild flu-like gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms, can also infect and cause degenerative changes in cancer cells.
